I have mentioned before that my mind is a strange and wondrous land, particularly when I’m dreaming. I wake up singing or trying to fathom why I am not on Jupiter. Occasionally, I wake myself up by speaking out loud. One particular day, I woke up saying “The Day The Mice Came.” This isn’t the first time I’ve written a story this way (another one will be published later this year, in fact, but that’s another post!).
The challenge is coming up with a story to make sense of it all. Frankly, the idea of mice coming en masse freaks me out. I didn’t want to write another horror story! Then I thought about mice another way and it took about three nano-seconds to come up with computer mice. An that led to this story about a non-descript woman, practically invisible to her colleagues, who came to befriend the latest and greatest adaptive work components ever produced for use with the cutting edge Sterling Systems Modular Workstation Kiosks™.
The story is available free online in the March 2023 issue of the Cinnabar Moth Literary Collections, starting on page 28. All the stories in that issue are excellent – I encourage you to visit! Be sure to check out previous issues, too!
